Who is the EMBER project designed for
The Erasmus Mundus EMBER is a grant programme which aims to carry out academic activities in Third Countries' High Education Institutions and in European Higher Education Institutions.
Third Country students
Undergraduate, Master and Doctoral students, Post-doctoral researchers and staff registered and/or working at universities from Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Moldova and Ukraine (the Erasmus Mundus Lot 5 countries), and nationals in particularly vulnerable situations (refugee status or asylum beneficiaries, unjustified expulsion from university, indigenous population, Internally Displaced Persons), who are interested in studying in those EU institutions which are members of the EMBER consortium.
In order to be an eligible candidate, the participant must comply with the following requirements:
- Must be a national of one of the Third Countries: Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Moldova, Ukraine.
- Must belong to the Target Group 1, Target Group 2 or Target Group 3 (see below for description)
- Must not have resided nor have carried out their main activity (studies, work, etc) for more than a total of 12 months over the last five years in any of the EU countries at the time of submitting their application to the partnership. (This rule does not apply to Target Group 3 candidates).
- Proof of language level required by the host university.
European students and staff
Undergraduate, Master and Doctoral students, Post-doctoral researchers and staff registered and/or working at universities of the EU partner countries who are interested in studying in one of the 11 Partner Universities from Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Moldova or Ukraine.
In order to be an eligible candidate, the following requirements apply:
- Must be a national of the European Union: Estonia, Germany, Italy, Lithuania, Poland, Spain, and Sweden.
- Must belong to Target Group 1.
- Must have sufficient knowledge of the language of the courses or of one of the languages currently spoken in the host country.
- Proof of language level required by the host university.
Please note that undergraduate students must have successfully completed at least one year of higher education studies in their home institution.
Targets
Target Group 1 (TG1)
Nationals of the 3rd and EU countries who are registered in one of the universities within the partnership.
Applicants from TG1 may apply for:
- Undergraduate
- Master
- Doctorate
- Post-doctorate
- Academic or Administrative Staff
Target Group 2 (TG2)
Nationals of the 3rd countries that are registered or work in a University that is not included in the partnership but is concerned by the geographical lot.
Applicants from TG2 may apply for:
- Master
- Doctorate
- Post-doctorate
- Academic or Administrative Staff
Target Group 3 (TG3)
Nationals of the 3rd-countries in particularly vulnerable situations:
- Refugee status or asylum beneficiaries
- Unjustified expulsion from University (racial, ethnic, religious, political)
- Indigenous population, IDPs (Internally Displaced Persons)
Applicants from TG3 may apply for:
- Undergraduate
- Master
- Doctorate
- Post-doctorate
Mobility Types
Mobilities for students registered in undergraduate programmes at their home university, who have successfully completed at least one year of their studies.
Duration:
- Third Countries to EU: 10 months
- EU to Third Countries: 6 months
Financial Information:
Subsistence: 1.000€/month
Furthermore, the grant from EMBER covers the following:
- Travel, Accident and Health Insurance
- Travel Costs
- Visa Costs
- Participation Costs
Mobilities for students who are currently registered in a Master’s programme at their home university.
Duration:
- Third Countries to EU: 10 months
- EU to Third Countries: 10 months
Financial Information:
Subsistence: 1.000€/month
Furthermore, the grant from EMBER covers the following:
- Travel, Accident and Health Insurance
- Travel Costs
- Visa Costs
- Participation Costs
Mobilities for students who are currently enrolled in a Doctoral programme at their home university.
Duration:
- Third Countries to EU: 16 months
- EU to Third Countries: 10 months
Financial Information:
Subsistence: 1.500€/month
Furthermore, the grant from EMBER covers the following:
- Travel, Accident and Health Insurance
- Travel Costs
- Visa Costs
- Participation Costs
Mobilities for researchers holding a Doctorate degree.
Duration:
- Third Countries to EU: 10 months
- EU to Third Countries: 9 months
Financial Information:
Subsistence: 1.800€/month
Furthermore, the grant from EMBER covers the following:
- Travel, Accident and Health Insurance
- Travel Costs
- Visa Costs
Mobilities for academic and administrative staff who are nationals of one of the eligible countries that work in or are associated to:
- One of the Third Country members or EU HEIs participating in the partnership (TG1)
- An HEI (not included in the partnership) of any Third Country concerned by the lot or any European country (TG2).
Duration:
- Third Countries to EU: 3 months
- EU to Third Countries: 3 months

- Visa Costs
